Should I Build My Own Home
Should I build my own home?

I bet this is a question you tend to ask of yourself when you are thinking or looking into buying a new home. Or maybe it’s a dream of yours to build your own home and you aren’t sure if you should. Here are some questions to consider when determining if new construction is for you.
- How soon do you need to move into a new home? If you are needing to move quickly, this isn’t the best option. But if you are looking to upgrade, have about a year’s time to have to really move OUT – then this would be the good route.
- How do you feel about DIY projects or home renovations? If you don’t mind moving into your next home and planning changes or seeing things you’d rather have or would like improved – then new construction isn’t the best fit. This will be done by the builder and built to what YOU want already.
- Along those same lines, are you looking for specific features? If the answer is yes and you aren’t finding a home that has all those specific features – new construction is a good fit. You can build to your needs and desires.
With New Construction you may (talk to a reputable custom home builder – I can help with that!) get to customize the features, you will have the latest and greatest, big ticket items usually are all under warranty, you get the most recent standards on energy efficiency and that oh so wonderful new home smell (like a new car smell). Those are just some of the pros of building your own home.
There are downfalls, your landscaping will require work, the price is usually non-negotiable unless you are chosing a new construction that is already in progress, it’s time consuming and still yet – you may not get all those options you are hoping for.
